Master Class [133]: Situational Leadership & Servant Leadership
The theory of situational leadership was developed by Paul Hersey, author of Situational Leader, and Ken Blanchard, author of The One Minute Manager, while working on their first edition of Management of Organizational Behavior. The theory was initially called the life cycle theory of leadership.
The model of situational leadership is about optimally managing people, based on the idea that effective leadership depends on the situation, an approach that is also known as contingency thinking. The model suggests that the style of leadership used should match the ‘task maturity’ of the employee or the group.
This task's maturity depends on two factors:
